Time of Remembrance Onsite Field Trip

Exploring citizenship, constitutionality and redress, the “Time of Remembrance” field trip brings a pivotal chapter of history to life for students through the first-hand accounts of Japanese American docents who experienced life behind barbed wire during WWII.

Includes admission to the museum, a guided tour of the newly-renovated “Uprooted: An American Story” exhibit, an interactive classroom program, plus lesson plans, digital artifact kit and follow-up activities related to current issues. Structured programming lasts 2 hours. Aligned with 5th, 8th and 11th grade History-Social Science, Common Core ELA and Ethnic Studies.

Upon receiving a booking, the education department tailors the program to the specific grade level requested; an individual program is not appropriate for the full grade span listed above.

*To receive discounted admission, reservations for a minimum of 20 paid participants are required and must be made a minimum of 14 days in advance. Groups with fewer than 20 participants subject to $120 flat rate.

Time of Remembrance Virtual Field Trip

Exploring citizenship, constitutionality and redress, the “Time of Remembrance” Virtual Field Trip bring a pivotal chapter of history to life for students through the first-hand accounts of Japanese American docents who experienced life behind barbed wire during WWII.​

Includes a 30-minute live docent-led Zoom interactive presentation, plus lesson plans, digital artifact kit and follow-up activities related to current issues. Aligned with 5th, 8th and 11th grade History-Social Science, Common Core ELA and Ethnic Studies.

Upon receiving a booking, the education department tailors the program to the specific grade level requested; an individual program is not appropriate for the full grade span listed above.

Time of Remembrance Traveling Trunk

Available seasonally

The Museum’s traveling trunk program brings the learning opportunities from the “Time of Remembrance” Field Trip to your campus and a pivotal chapter of history to life for middle and high school students over a 2-week period.

Includes artifact reproductions, lesson plans and hands-on activities exploring life in a WWII incarceration camp, along with citizenship, constitutionality and redress, presented in a WWII-era suitcase. A 60-minute presentation given by a “Time of Remembrance” docent may be added for an additional fee. Aligned with 5th, 8th and 11th grade History-Social Science and Common Core ELA.
