Amenities & Policies

Events must be cultural, recreational, corporate and/or educational in nature. Political fundraisers are not permitted.

On-site Amenities:

Security:

Security is mandatory for all events at the minimum ratio of 1 (one) guard per 50 (fifty) guests. Total number of guards varies by the total number hours for an event, total number of spaces used and total number of guests.

Set-up & Breakdown:

Set-up and breakdown of house amenities including tables, chairs and A/V equipment is included. Additional charges may apply for items rented from outside vendors.

Catering:

Events may use the Museum’s preferred caterers at no additional charge:

Preferred A/V:

The Courtyard does not have lighting or sound. Lighting and sound are required for evening Courtyard events, if requesting.

Alcohol:

Alcoholic beverages may be served if the client has obtained a temporary permit or the client’s caterer has an existing permit to serve alcohol from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Please visit the California ABC’s web site for more information on applicable laws and how to obtain a temporary permit, which may include a 4-6 week application process.

Guest Parking:

Parking is available in the garage on the corner of 10th and O Streets from 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mon.-Fri. and 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sat. On-street parking around the Museum is metered Mon.-Sat. and free on Sunday. To extend garage parking hours, contact the Museum’s Facility Rentals Manager.

Photography, Videography & Sound Recordings:

Clients and their guests are permitted to take photos with handheld cameras and cell phones using existing light for personal use only. Flash photography is not permitted in any of the galleries because it can damage artifacts.

A location waiver authorizing photography, videography and/or sound recording on site is required a minimum of 24 hours in advance of all events. Images, sound recordings and footage taken on the premises may not be used or sold for any commercial purpose without prior written authorization by the California Museum.

Media Coverage:

Events including media coverage must apply for credentials and submit press materials a minimum of 7 days in advance of event – no exceptions. Please review the communications policies provided with your rental agreement for more information.

Event Promotions:

All uses of the Museum’s name, logo, exhibits and other intellectual property require prior written authorization a minimum of 24 hours in advance and applies to: invitations, press releases, videography, posts and photographs online and social media (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, Pinterest, FourSquare, etc.), broadcast television or radio transmissions, online ticket sales and all marketing or promotional materials.

No implications may be made through rental event promotional materials that the California Museum is sponsoring or endorsing the organization or event, and rental events may not fundraise or seek sponsorship using the Museum’s name or exhibits as a benefit of a sponsorship or donation.
