California Museum Board of Trustees issues statement on the appointment of Alex Padilla
SACRAMENTO, CALIF. — Dec. 23, 2020: The California Museum Board of Trustees issued the following statement today on Governor Gavin Newsom’s appointment of Secretary of State Alex Padilla to serve as United States senator representing California:
The California Museum celebrates the historic selection of Alex Padilla as the first person of Latino heritage to represent California in the United States Senate. A child of immigrants with over two decades of public service behind him, he will be an effective and passionate advocate for the interests of all Californians in Washington. We extend our hearty congratulations to him for this well-deserved appointment.
We also extend our thanks to him for his steadfast support of the California Museum, where he has been an ex officio member of the Board of Trustees since his election as California Secretary of State in 2014. While leading his agency to achievements including raising voter participation to record levels, he also advanced civic engagement by prioritizing the role of the Museum to showcase California history and integrate historic treasures from the California State Archives into its exhibits.
It has been our honor to work with Secretary Padilla and we wish him all the best in his new position.
