Local Museums Unite to Extend Mask Policy

Coalition announces continued mask requirement ahead of eased restrictions for indoor museums starting June 15

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. — June 11, 2021: Today, a coalition of Sacramento museums announced plans to continue requiring masks for all visitors over age two, volunteers and staff. The following statement was issued in anticipation of eased restrictions for indoor museums by the California Department of Public Health starting Tuesday, June 15, 2021:

“Our organizations agree that providing a safe environment for all visitors, volunteers and staff is our greatest priority. Museums are community spaces where guests of all ages, backgrounds, beliefs and abilities are welcome. We are united in our commitment to maintaining the safest experience for all by extending our mask requirement until further notice.

The extension is critical to protecting vulnerable community members, including children under 12 who are currently ineligible for vaccines, since only about 40% of greater Sacramento area residents are fully vaccinated.

Please check each organization’s website for current policies and plan visits ahead. Each museum’s policies are subject to change. We all look forward to the day when we can safely lift the mask requirement.”
