California Museum Resumes Temporary Closure Effective Thursday, Nov. 12

Operations suspended until further notice due to Sacramento County’s purple tier status under California Department of Public Health’s guidelines for COVID-19

NOV. 11, 2020 – SACRAMENTO, CALIF.: Today, the California Museum will temporarily close to the public effective Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, due to Sacramento County’s move back to purple tier status by the California Department of Public Health.

The Museum will remain closed until further notice and continue to offer online exhibits, online events and tours, as well as free resources for K-12 students learning at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Highlights include:

• Online exhibits including “Día de los Muertos 2020,” “Fight for the Right: 100 Years of Women Voting” and “Women Inspire: California Women Changing Our World” available on the Museum’s website and on the Google Arts & Culture platform.
• Virtual field trip tours aligned with California State Content and Common Core standards on a variety of historical and civics-based topics for K-12 distance learning students.
• Online events including California Museum Live!, a new monthly program featuring a live, interactive docent-led exhibit tour launching Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021.
• Distance learning activities on a variety of California history, arts and culture topics available for free as printable PDFs and paperless Google Classroom assignments.
