California Museum Reopens Thursday, Nov. 5
Guests welcomed back with new protocols to protect visitors, volunteers & staff
OCT. 20, 2020 – Sacramento, Calif.: Today, the California Museum announced it will reopen to the public on Thurs. Nov. 5, 2020, ending its closure that began on Fri., March 13 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Visitors will be welcomed back with new protocols to provide a safe onsite experience, such as increased cleaning, advance contactless ticketing, socially distanced gallery routes and face masks. In keeping with guidance outlined in Phase 3 of California’s Roadmap to Resiliency, interim policies and protocols include:
- Limited general admission hours Thursday and Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 5 pm to provide time required for daily deep cleaning.
- Advance ticketing with discounted admission of $7 per person plus processing fee to encourage contactless entry.
- Face masks covering nose and mouth required for all visitors over the age of 2, along with staff and volunteers, in keeping with guidance for indoor museums by the California Department of Public Health.
- Limited occupancy of 25 percent of capacity or 10 visitors per half hour.
- Designated routes marked by signage and floor graphics to maintain social distance.
- Complimentary hand sanitizer at stations located throughout the facility for use upon entering, exiting and contact with interactive displays.
- Downloadable visitor guide with answers to frequently asked questions.
Under California’s Phase 3 guidelines, the following restrictions will also be in place until further notice:
- Groups of two or more must live in the same household.
- No field trip or group tours consisting of visitors from different households.
- Closure of water fountains, some interactive displays and small enclosed spaces.
In addition, the Museum will continue to offer online exhibits, events and field trip tours while continuing to monitor recommendations by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, California Department of Public Health and the Sacramento County Department of Public Health as the situation develops.
