Alebrije Painting Workshop

Sunday, September 20, 1 – 3 pm
Paint your own alebrije and celebrate the folklore, color, and craft of Mexican tradition.
This Hispanic Heritage Month, dive into the colorful world of alebrijes, Mexico’s fantastical, vividly painted wooden creatures, and paint your own in a hands-on workshop led by Balam Arts.
Best for ages 10 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Hands-on painting instruction alongside a bilingual (English/Spanish) exploration of the history and folklore behind alebrijes and Zapotec tradition.
WHAT YOU’LL TAKE HOME
Your own hand-painted wooden alebrije, a written guide to the history behind the tradition, and a deeper connection to a craft passed down for generations.
Tickets are $35 for members and $40 for non-members. Members can get their discount code by emailing membership@californiamuseum.org
