Ikeda’s: Peaches, Pies & Perseverance (Members-Only)

If you’ve driven Highway 80 through Auburn, chances are you’ve spotted the Ikeda’s sign, but few know the story behind it. Sam and Sally Ikeda were among the more than 120,000 Japanese Americans incarcerated during WWII, held at Tule Lake before rebuilding their lives in Auburn after the war. Starting with an Elberta peach orchard and a small roadside fruit stand, they founded what would become an iconic California market, one that three generations of Ikedas still run today.
