Education Associate

Job Description

This full-time position will support the day-to-day operation and implementation of innovative, high-quality public, school, community, and outreach programs for the California Museum, advancing its mission to educate people about California’s rich history, its diversity, and its unique influence on the world of ideas, innovation, art, and culture.      

The ideal candidate will have experience teaching formally or informally; communicating with teachers and administrators in professional settings; supporting events or programs; and facilitating hands-on education programs. This position works closely with the entire education team on programming for school, family, and general public audiences. An ideal candidate has a passion for history, an enthusiasm for working with children, and a talent to communicate knowledge in an engaging way.

Responsibilities
  • Lead field trips for school groups and group tours for general visitors, online and in person
  • Build relationships with school partners and provide excellent customer service to teachers, students, and community partners to ensure enjoyable and educational experiences and encourage repeat visitation
  • Support day-of coordination and logistics of public programs
  • Collaborate with the education team to design educational programs and resources
  • Work with community groups to provide educational experiences at the Museum, virtually, or off-site
  • Provide support for Museum-wide projects and initiatives
  • Perform other duties as required
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of and experience with virtual meeting-hosting platforms including, but not limited to Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google suite, and interest in learning new technologies and virtual tools
  • Planning, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Comfort in presenting to large groups in person and online
  • Interest in uplifting the stories of marginalized peoples often left out of history books
  • Flexibility, collaborative work ethic, and sense of humor
  • Ability to work well with diverse partners and constituents
  • Knowledge of California history, California State content standards, and bilingual English/Spanish fluency are pluses
Minimum Qualifications
  • Willingness to work flexible hours when necessary and to participate in a wide variety of duties as assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster or an approved medical or religious exemption
Position

Full time non-exempt, reports to Education Director. Typical work hours Mon.-Fri. 8:00 am- 4:30 pm. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Eligible for up to 20% remote work after 90 days upon request. Benefits include paid vacation and holidays, dental and vision insurance, employer-subsidized health plan, and 401(k) savings plan with match. Starting salary $42,000.
